Abstract

A large number of chemical wastewater discharge, oil leakage and oil spill accidents have caused a huge impact on environmental protection and ecological balance. We here developed a simple, energy saving and environmentally friendly method to fabricate metal organic frameworks (MOFs) - based membrane. Cu-CAT-1 was successfully deposited on a copper mesh to obtain the membrane of Cu-CAT-1@copper mesh by using electrodeposited. Under the action of gravity, the membrane can quickly separate a serious of oil/water mixtures, with the separation efficiency over 95.0% and water flux higher than 112 kL·m2·h1. Its separation performance is better than those reported copper mesh based membranes, and also showed good reproducibility and recyclability. The mass transfer mechanism of the membrane is mainly based on the super-hydrophilic and underwater super-hydrophobic properties of Cu-CAT-1 to achieve effective separation for oily wastewater.
