Xiaxin (Charlotte) Xiao is an Associate Language Lecturer at the School of Language at XJTLU. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with M.S. Ed in TESOL and has taught adult ESL in the U.S. and EAP in China. As a fluent speaker of Mandarin, Cantonese, Hakka, and English and an active learner of Spanish, Korean, and German, she is passionate about teaching and learning languages and exploring sociolinguistics issues as a teacher and a learner. In recent years, she has won awards in several teaching competitions organized by FLTRP, SFLEP, and HEP.

XJTLU, Associate Language Lecturer | Suzhou (Aug. 2022 – present)
•    Have taught modules EAP033/037/041 with above-average MQ scores every semester
•    Have co-coordinated with two other colleagues on EAP037/041 Community of Practice since AY23-24 S1
•    Have been Deputy Internal Moderator since AY23-24 S2

CUCN, Lecturer of ELC | Nanjing (Sep. 2019 – Jun. 2022)
•    Worked as a lecturer at the English Language Center (ELC) of the International School at Communication University of China Nanjing (CUCN).
•    Taught courses including General English, College English, IELTS Preparation, English Speaking, etc., to students of diverse subject areas in various class sizes, from as small as 1-on-1 sessions to as large as 35-student classes, on an average of over 15-hour per week teaching schedule.

Providence Center, ESL Instructor | Philadelphia (Sep. 25 – Dec. 18, 2018)
•    Taught a 2-hour Intermediate-level ESL class twice a week to adult learners, the majority of whom are immigrants from Spanish-speaking countries and areas such as Mexico and Puerto Rico.
•    Other responsibilities include adapting Ventures 2 textbooks and designing term lesson plans and materials, for the purpose of fulfilling learner needs in navigating daily living situations. 

Penn GSE, TESOL ADDS Advisor | Philadelphia (Sep. – Nov. 2018)
•    Worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for the Fall 2018 semester at the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education, Education Linguistics Division.
•    Co-taught a series of mandatory ADDS (Approaches Discuss and Do) workshops, which functioned as complementary sessions to one of the core courses – Approaches to Teaching English and Other Modern Languages, for first-year TESOL students to better connect theories and practice.

Community PEDAL, ESL Instructor | Philadelphia (May. 21– Jul. 30, 2018)
•    Co-taught the 2-hour Advanced-level integrated skills ESL Class once a week to adults of diversified backgrounds at Community PEDAL (Practical English for Daily Living), a learning center sponsored by the Penn GSE Educational Linguistics division.
•    Designed each lesson weekly based on learners’ practical needs and interests, aiming to facilitate learners’ daily living and communication in English.
