Li joined XTJLU in April 2013. Her current research is to develop a broad range of nanomaterials and understand their nanoscale properties including electronic, photonic, electrochemical, mechanical and interfacial properties for the applications of energy conversion and storage, molecular electronics, and environmental technology. In 2016, Li has appointed as a deputy director of Institute of Substantial Materials and Environment (ISME) and a deputy director of Suzhou Municipal Key Lab for New Energy Technology (NET). She is leading a major new project of Graphene-based Lithium-ion batteries with 2 million RMB funding from Suzhou Industrial Park Initiative. She has authored and co-authored over 100 journal papers and 5 book chapters, and delivered numerous international presentations. Prof. Yang has supervised 4 Ph.Ds. and 7 M.Scs. students to completion. Li has made a major contribution to international leadership in physics, appointed as the Chartered Physicist of Institute of Physics (IOP, UK) in 2013. She was also the winners of 2021 Suzhou SEID Excellent Scientific and Education Talent, 2018 Jiangsu 333 Project, 2016-2018 SIP Shortage Talent, 2014 Jiangsu Six-Peak Talent. Prof. Yang was the principal investigator of 2017 NSFC grant, 2016 Suzhou Science and Technology grant, 2015 NSFC grant, 2014 Jiangsu Science and Technology grant, 2 Key Program Special Fund (KSF) in XJTLU, 2 XJTLU research and development fund (RDF) grants, 2 full XJTLU postgraduate research scholarships, 3 exploratory funded grants (2 awarded proposals in one call) by the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) Strategic Research Programme and contributed many projects funded by UK Technologic Science Board, National Measurement System and European Metrology Research Programme. Prior to XJTLU, she was a higher research scientist at NPL, UK and worked large multiple research programs from 2007-2013. She received her PhD from the University of Bristol (UK) with the funding from a prestigious Oversea Research Student Award Scheme (ORSAS) from Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE). Her work creating three-dimensional hierarchical structures using pulsed-laser induced interface reaction was featured as hot spot scientific news at the University of Bristol web site in March 2008 and she was awarded the Bristol Alumni Foundation and the Society of Chemistry Industry Messel travel grant in 2006.
Research interests
Functional Nanomaterials, Interfaces and Molecular Electronics
Nanoscale science and technology holds great promise for emerging device miniaturization. Understanding and control of how fundamental properties change when a nanomaterial is incorporated in devices are critical for electronics, photonics and sensors. My research is focused range from synthesis, characterization and assembly of well-defined nanomaterials, exploring chemical, physical and biological properties of surfaces at all scales, developing comprehensive analytical methods to understand molecular electronics and model devices.
Nanostructures in Organic Electronic Devices
Conjugated polymers are promising materials for low-cost solar cells as they can be solution-processed, thereby allowing coating and printing approaches to fabrication. Controlling thin film structure plays an important to corresponding device performance.
Direct assembly of 2D amp; 3D nanomaterials
Well-defined nanoscale materials ranging from nanocrystals, nanowires and nanotubes to heterostructures can be achieved using physical, electrical, chemical and lithographic means.
Surfaces and Interfaces at all scales
Due to the rapidly shrinking size of electronic devices, studying all-scale structures and their surfaces and interfaces using advanced surface analytical techniques are vital to the development of future novel electronics.
Chemical Characterisation of Nanoparticles
The novel and unusual properties of nanoparticles may alter in a particular medium, process, or application. Chemical characterization of the nanoparticles provide information essential to their development as well as for understanding potential hazards.
