He leads an interdisciplinary research team to develop nanomaterials-enabled technologies for biomedicine, specifically: 1) assembly, manipulation, and analysis at nano-meter scale; 2) biological delivery: fundamental study of the underlying biological transport behaviors, and delivery technology development; 3) nanomaterials for cell therapies; 4) namomaterials-mediated neural medicine technology.

He has published a number of high impact papers, and has many patent applications, including one granted US patent and two granted Chinese patents. He is a co-founder of Core Quantum Technologies (based in the US), which has successfully translated nanobiomaterials-enabled technologies from university lab to the market. He is the Acting Associate Dean for Research and Global Engagement of the Academy of Pharmacy, Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University. He is the Director of Jiangsu Province Higher Education Key Laboratory of Cell Therapy Nanoformulation (Construction).
