Description

With the paced urbanization process in Chinese metropolises, the density of the urban population increases continuously, which results in the transformation of the architectural form of residential living space from the low-rise building to the high-rise building. However, the currently existing domestic urban community models involving the traditional community model and modern community model cannot satisfy the material, mental and social needs of residents simultaneously. Focusing on the metropolises such as Shanghai and Hangzhou, the research will firstly analyse currently existing Chinese urban community models and a questionnaire about the life needs and social needs of residents. Based on that, the thesis proposes a new vertical community model, which is aiming at meeting the life needs and social needs of high-rise residents and promoting the neighbourhood relationship in high-rise residences. Meanwhile, the thesis will summarize several applicable suggestive architectural design principles to ensure the practical feasibility of the new vertical community model, such as vertical mixed-function distribution, small-scale communicative space construction and the establishment of the platform for group public activities.
