Abstract
In the interstices of shared existence, where stories intertwine and realities converge, lies a celebration of the myriad ways we craft complex relationalities. Reality is not singular nor static but continuously shaped through interactions, imaginations, and interventions. Drawing on the concept of worlding, this curated exhibition assembles creative endeavors that actively shape worlds, moving beyond passive creation to dynamic engagement. Worlding Alternative Worlds: More than Cultural Diversity honors plurality, fosters kinship, and explores the intricate entanglements of coexistence in the Anthropocene.
Challenging conventional notions of diversity, the exhibition embraces a holistic perspective that interweaves technological, ecological, and cultural dimensions. It invites audiences to reflect on interconnectedness, recognizing that true diversity emerges through the multitude of ways life manifests, evolves, and interacts. The curated projects offer innovative pathways to rethink coexistence, cultural heritage, and ecological responsibility. Uniquely responding to Milan Design Week 2025’s theme of Making Kin, they foster locality, relationality, and interdependence across cultural and ecological boundaries.
Through immersive VR, interactive storytelling, and wearable technology, the featured works from the Interactive Experience+Lab at XJTLU Industrial Design Department leverage technology and creativity to inspire kinship-making among humans, non-humans, and more-than-humans. They illuminate the boundless possibilities of world-making, serving as testaments to human ingenuity and resilience while inviting audiences to engage with alternative ways of being and coexisting.
