Abstract
In Kimvi’s sculptural installation, the artist utilises solely traditional roof tiles sourced from the village of Nanxi South Village, transforming them into a permanent artwork. Working independently, the artist meticulously stack these tiles, forming a solid mountainous structure inspired by the surrounding landscape and the storage and stacking techniques observed within the village itself.
The primary objective of this installation is to encourage open interpretation and facilitate a dialogue between the artist and the villagers. The artwork can be perceived as an intricately arranged stack of tiles or evoke the imagery of a woman's skirt, symbolising notions of femininity and elegance. Combining the artist background as a sculptor and performance artist, this piece seamlessly integrates elements from both artistic disciplines.
To breathe life into the installation, the artist extends an invitation to the women in the village, encouraging them to engage in playful interactions within the artwork. Their involvement adds an element of dynamism and allows the form to come alive, creating an interactive experience for both the participants and the viewers.
