Abstract

The VR Calligraphy Experience, presented by the Virtual Reality Research Centre of XJTLU Affiliated School in collaboration with the Industrial Design Department of XJTLU, introduced an innovative fusion of traditional calligraphy and immersive technology. The installation allowed participants to engage in virtual ink writing within a three-dimensional spatial environment, translating the tactile and expressive essence of Chinese brushwork into a digital medium. The exhibit demonstrates how technological mediation can revitalise heritage arts, enabling users—especially younger generations—to rediscover cultural identity through interaction, movement, and immersion. It marks an important step in linking artistic tradition, design research, and digital innovation, envisioning new pedagogical and experiential models for cultural transmission.
