abstract = "Cultural psychology of education calls for integrating international research efforts to advance theoretical developments closely rooted in local systems. In this chapter, an innovative method of {\textquotedblleft}research tandem{\textquotedblright} is conceptualized and offered as a powerful tool to investigate educational phenomenon in a local setting: a Shanghai kindergarten. From this methodological thinking, the local kindergarten is framed as a window of a bigger social and cultural world, in which different values and practices interweave with each other and form a unique landscape for young children to immigrant. The method of {\textquotedblleft}research tandem{\textquotedblright} couples two young researchers from two different backgrounds{\textemdash}local and foreign{\textemdash}and constitutes a powerful platform for cultivating research intuition and reflection. The structure of the book is also briefly introduced in this chapter.",
