Abstract

Jinxi, a millennium-old town nestled within the water networks of the Jiangnan region, has long been renowned for its "interdependence between farmland and water, and integration of villages and towns". It not only preserves the texture and style of traditional rural areas in southern Jiangsu but also serves as an authentic site for architectural transformation and rural regeneration at the urban-rural interface.

The Kanghe Qingtian Agri-Cultural-Tourism Base, located at No. 258 Jinzhou Highway, is precisely such a vibrant venue where rural construction and life practices intersect. Titled "Present · Unrealised: The Accomplished and the Unaccomplished in Rural Architecture", this exhibition looks back on the spatial practices that have been implemented and also contemplates the uncharted realm of ideas that have not yet been materialised.

"Present" serves as a testament to reality — in fields, at river landings, and along lanes, designers have responded to the landscape and embodied nostalgia, allowing architecture to take root like seeds. "Unrealised", on the other hand, represents an unfinished poetry; it may linger in sketches, models, and dialogues, embracing the reimagination of an ideal rural landscape.
