Abstract

Living in such a busy metropolis Hong Kong, transportation is very important to Hong Kong citizens. As one of the most dominant transportation means in Hong Kong, unlike the metro in Hong Kong, it is often for Hong Kong people to spend an excessive amount of time waiting for buses to arrive. With the introduction of the proposed scheduling system NextBUS, unlike in the past that the potential passengers could only be held in a passive position that could only blindly wait, they can be better advised over their waiting. With NextBUS, people can know where the bus is and when it will arrive, together with the information of whether the disabilities facilities are available and the situation in the bus. The user interface, technical implementation concerns, societal concerns and possible future developments have been fully discussed in this positioning paper.
