Abstract

IAI 2025 Gold Award Artistic Creation Ceramics
New Forms, New Consciousness, explores ceramic design as a phenomenological
act—an intimate dialogue between hand, material, and space that shapes not
only form but also our perception of boundaries, memory, and identity.
Moving beyond functional vessels, the work comprises four investigative series:
Vessels (interrogates the duality of vessels as relational objects: their hollow interiors
and enclosing forms mediate between isolation and connection, preservation and
transformation), Desert Dreams (Forms that capture the erosion, vastness, and latent
energy of arid landscapes), Bended Walls (Pieces that challenge structural rigidity,
exploring the tension and grace of curved, leaning planes), Press (Works where the
direct imprint of the body and process becomes the primary language of the form).
Together, they interrogate the ceramic object as a relational entity. Drawing from
phenomenological thought, the work suggests that the true significance of a ves-
sel—or any formed boundary—lies in its dynamic emptiness, the active space it cre-
ates for holding, transforming, and connecting.
Each piece serves as a tactile metaphor, proposing that cultural and spatial bound-
aries are not rigid but dialogic. By furing meticulous ceramic technique with a mod-
ernist sculptural language, the project honors the deep tactile history of clay while
expanding its expressive limits.
