Abstract

During winter break, DRC (Design Research Center) entered a competition for Xitiandi Design Festival during the period of Design Shanghai 2024. The team is led by Jess Yu, assistant professor from the Department of Architecture, including two participating students Cao Guangyao and Liu Yigao.

The team's design entry “Mirage” is chosen as one of the winning projects among the 150 submissions.

In response to the brief of this year’s competition “Hybrid Playground”. The proposal “Mirage” is inspired by the explosive moment of fireworks, combined with the blooming of spring and Shanghai’s cityscape. The installation is composed of a series of screens made with fabrics creating a dynamic and interactive setting. The project aims to cultivate an immersive experience, inviting visitors to traverse through, stoop under, and engage intimately with it, fostering reconnection between visitors and the surrounding landscape, thereby enhancing the experiential dimension of the festival.

The project will be installed in Xitiandi during Design Shanghai between June 13-30.
