Abstract

The self-lubricating anti-wear composite coating was fabricated by preplacing Ti+TiC+WS2 mixed powders on TA2 titanium alloy using laser cladding technique. The phase composition, microstructure, microhardness and tribological properties of the coating were investigated. The results indicate that the coating is bonded metallurgically with the substrate and free from holes and cracks. The coating mainly consists of the matrix α-Ti, the reinforcement phases (Ti, W)C1-x and TiC, and the self-lubricating phases Ti2SC and TiS. The microhardness of the coating is 1005.4 HV, which is 5 times of that of the substrate. Due to the existence of the self-lubricating phases Ti2SC and TiS in the coating, the friction coefficient of the coating fluctuates more smoothly comparing to that of the TA2 alloy substrate. Furthermore, the worn surface of the coating presents slightly adhesive wear. The coating shows good anti-wear and friction reducing properties.
