Investigation on High-Temperature Behavior of UHPLC with Aramid Fibers and Polypropylene Fibers

Research output: Contribution to conference › Paper › peer-review

Abstract

Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC) is widely used for its excellent mechanical properties and durability, but its high compactness causes explosive spalling at high temperatures. Reducing UHPC’s self-weight expands its application to long-span structures and precast components, thus making research on Ultra-High Performance Lightweight Concrete (UHPLC)’s high-temperature performance crucial. In this study, UHPLC reinforced with aramid fibers and hybrid polypropylene (PP) fibers was prepared (self-weight: 123.9 lb/ft³ (1985 kg/m³)). The influence of 150 ? hot air curing on its strength and high-temperature response was explored. Results showed aramid fibers enhance compressive and flexural strength. Both single fiber addition and hybrid PP fiber incorporation improved the spalling behavior. Hot air curing at 150 ? was beneficial to mechanical properties and fire response, with more pronounced effects along with the extension of the curing time. Microscopic images reveal the microstructural evolution of the material under high temperature. This study supports the development and application of UHPLC materials.
