Abstract
This paper introduces a computational framework for designing architectural wall systems in which acoustic performance emerges directly from geometric and tectonic variation. Instead of adding acoustics after form-finding, the workflow integrates acoustic behaviour from the outset through geometric parameterization, raybased simulation, structural assessment, and robotic fabrication. The design space couples global wall curvature with local block rotation, which enables control over diffusion, reflection, and absorption. These variables are evaluated using acoustic analysis and discrete-element structural modelling, with trade-offs explored through multi-objective optimization. Representative solutions show how distinct geometric families yield different acoustic and structural characteristics. A fullscale prototype, assembled via a six-axis robotic pick-and-place process, demonstrates the constructability of the optimized designs. Overall, the study presents a unified workflow that connects acoustic design, geometric generation, structural stability, and robotic assembly, with the aim of creating a practical approach for developing acoustically performative wall systems.
