Educational Models: How long can traditional approaches last? An Imaginary Conversation

Research output: Chapter in Book or Report/Conference proceeding › Chapter › peer-review

    Abstract

From the Conclusion to the volume: 'While this volume has primarily looked ahead, Chapter 5 draws us deliberately backward, reminding us that transformation cannot be meaningful if it forgets where it came from. Presented as a Socratic dialogue between educators and a student, this chapter explores the intellectual inheritance of the university, its layered architecture, embedded traditions, and persistent tensions between the liberal and professional models of education. Rather than rejecting the past, the dialogue illustrates the importance of philosophical literacy, historical memory, and dialectical wisdom. Universities, it argues, must be spaces not only of change, but of thoughtful continuity. As one character observes, “Superstition is the one great enemy, both when it protects established things and when it makes them appear infamous.” The chapter does not deny the need for radical change but cautions against rootless innovation.'
