Abstract
This article examines the impact of CEO founder status on firm digital transformation performance and the contingencies that influence this relationship. Drawing on a panel dataset encompassing all Chinese listed companies engaged in online business between 2014 and 2019, the findings indicate that companies led by founder CEOs are more likely to achieve superior digital transformation outcomes compared to those led by non-founder CEOs. Moreover, the analysis suggests that the positive influence of founder CEOs on digital transformation can be weakened by a larger board and supervisory board. In contrast, when founder CEOs possess prior experience in founding other companies, their positive impact on the firm's digital transformation performance is likely to be strengthened.
