Abstract
Drift in the Blue Between (2025): an installation of 25 hand-dyed indigo mud fabrics in circular wooden
frames, exhibited at the XJTLU Central Building, SIP, Suzhou, China in July 2025. This work explores the
spatial qualities of unfinishedness and imperfection as cultural expression. Emptiness is expressed not
only in the physical gaps between hanging textiles but in the indeterminate textures created through
folding, dipping, and drying. These spatial gaps evoke Bachelard’s poetic voids, and the dyeing process—
a blend of control and surrender—mirrors Heidegger’s idea of emptiness as a space that both holds and
transforms. The installation becomes a meditation on unfinishedness as cultural continuity. As a reflection on architecture's interdisciplinary scope, the project merges traditional dyeing techniques
with spatial research, embracing spontaneity, material intelligence, and the resonance of transience. It
represents the School of Design's vision of bridging theory and craft, and has been submitted to the Taipei Design Award 2025.
