Abstract
This forthcoming issue of ARC2Città initiates a vital academic and professional dialogue between Italy and China on contemporary urban transformation. Proposed by Professor Ernesto d'Alfonso and developed through the Sino-Italian Urban Regeneration HUB at XJTLU, this collaboration leverages Italy's renowned morphological-typological approach to address China's shift toward sustainable urbanisation after decades of rapid growth.
Focusing on a comparative analysis of architectural and territorial scales, the issue examines the tensions between global models and local identities, evident in China's vast new town construction. It aims to build a methodological bridge, transforming "planned utopias" into lived urban habitats through culturally resonant design.
This dialogue lays the groundwork for future co-design projects and offers innovative strategies to navigate modernisation while respecting socio-spatial traditions, enriching urban practice in both contexts.
