A Mysterious Middle Ages Inscription from Tuscany

  • University of Padova

Research output: Contribution to journalArticle

Abstract

At the entrance of some churches of Tuscany (Italy), there is the reproduction of an apparently mysterious inscription. Since the XVIII Century, this epigraph has originated a debate on its interpretation. This study proposes a hypothesis based on the Latin alphabet used in texts contemporary to the churches where the inscription is reproduced and an interpretation of the meaning of the message coherent with the official religious doctrine of its historical context.
