This teaching innovation project is a cross-disciplinary, practice-oriented learning initiative that addresses the sustainable development of peri-urban areas, with a specific focus on Yangcheng Lake Township in Xiangcheng District, Suzhou. Drawing upon the strengths of interdisciplinary learning and teaching, the project aims to engage students to investigate the township’s contemporary development challenges and to develop tailored revitalisation strategies through close collaboration with the Yangcheng Lake Township Government. To engage students in tackling these real-world challenges, the project adopts a cross-departmental and interdisciplinary teaching and learning approach grounded in empirical fieldwork and stakeholder collaboration. It engages and cultivates students in formulating sustainable transformation and development strategies tailored to Yangcheng Lake Township and also provides referable development solutions to other peri-urban areas facing with similar challenges.
