Project Title (In Chinese)

用于轻量化应用的结构化超材料

Fund Amount (RMB)

Description

Bringing forward previous research within the domain of smart fabrics through literature review, design development, simulation, prototyping and testing, the project aims at enhancing structured metamaterials with the integration of lightweight inflatable structures and electronics to achieve kinetic functionalities with a multifunctional purpose. While structured metamaterials are becoming popular in technical applications their potential to be ubiquitously present in everyday objects such as garments or accessories is still an unexplored territory as well as the use of inflatable techniques to generate mechanical/ physical property-shifting materials. In order to achieve that integration a collaboration with other XJTLU departments will support the development at different stages. Initially a mathematical model will be generated and simulated digitally, then a series of macro-scale prototypes will help producing tested and then a final prototype will be manufactured, considering scalability and mass production techniques, to be tested on a range of scenarios. Finally, the collaboration within Suzhou’s technological ecosystem will constitute an advantage for companies and institutions.
