Mirage Installation: 2024 Xintiandi Design Festival of Design Shanghai

Project: Collaborative Research Project

Project Details

Description

Mirage is a site-specific public art installation located in Taipingqiao Park, drawing inspiration from the fleeting brilliance of fireworks and the undulating forms of urban skylines. The installation features a series of woven screens made from gradient-colored nylon threads, creating a rhythmic spatial experience that echoes the rise and fall of a city in motion.

The use of vibrant, fluid color is inspired by Henri Matisse—bold, luminous hues are layered to evoke both emotional resonance and a sense of celebration. Through this immersive composition of light, shadow, and movement, the work invites viewers to reconnect with childhood memories and moments of collective festivity.

Rather than offering a static spectacle, Mirage unfolds like a dreamscape—an open-ended journey through color, form, and atmosphere. It invites the public to wander, reflect, and momentarily step into a soft-edged utopia where the pulse of the city merges with the poetry of imagination.
