Examining semantic alignment in AI-student interactions for positive emotional engagement and improved learning outcomes

Project: Internal Research Project

Project Details

Description

AI developments are transforming society, with education set to change significantly. A key concern is teacher-student communication, which is essential for learning, and depends on communicative synchrony. But can this synchrony be achieved in AI-student interaction? This project addresses this vital question by examining semantic synchrony—the dynamic conceptual alignment during dyadic conversations. Unlike traditional approaches focused on behavioural and physiological cues, semantic synchrony captures conceptual understanding, crucial for evaluating AI-mediated education. By examining AI-student interactions, this project aims to link semantic alignment with student engagement and learning, guiding effective AI integration in education, especially at XJTLU.
