Brand Symbols × Product Language: A Dual‑Track Reform in Industrial Design Education — Extending the “Super‑Symbol” from Brand Discourse to Product Language

Project: Governmental Research Project

Project Details

Description

This teaching reform project explored how the concept of the “Super-Symbol”, originally developed within brand strategy and communication, could be extended into industrial design education and translated into product language. Working with Hua& Hua, the project introduced a dual-track framework connecting brand symbols with product form, interaction, touchpoints and user perception. Students were encouraged to move beyond styling or isolated visual identity, and instead investigate how recognisable symbolic principles could be consistently embedded across products and user experiences. The project aimed to strengthen students’ ability to connect strategic brand thinking with tangible design decisions, while developing a more systematic understanding of how product language contributes to recognition, differentiation and brand meaning.
