Description

This proposal investigates the nexus between AI interactions and consumer pro-
environmental behaviors. With the growing prevalence of AI services aimed at societal
betterment, it's crucial to determine if AI-human interactions can prompt environmentally
responsible actions. We propose two mechanisms: novelty perception and future time
orientation, suggesting that AI interactions encourage pro-environmental conduct via these
channels, moderated by anthropomorphism. The study employs secondary data analysis
and experiments to rigorously test these hypotheses, exploring boundary conditions.
Additionally, we examine AI design's influence, beyond anthropomorphism, on consumer
pro-environmental attitudes and actions. Analyzing AI types and design elements in online
data, we aim to establish a prototypical AI design fostering environmentally conscious
thoughts and actions. By unraveling these dynamics, we provide insights for AI
developers, policymakers, and businesses seeking to drive positive environmental change
through AI interactions.
