Personal profile

Tongjie Li is a researcher specializing in ultrasound engineering and biomedical acoustics, with expertise in numerical modeling, inverse problems, and optimization algorithms for medical ultrasound systems. His work focuses on physics-based and computational approaches to wave propagation, control, and biomedical device development. He received his M.S. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where he specialized in numerical modeling and optimization. He was elected to Phi Kappa Phi, named to the Dean’s Honor List, and holds a professional certificate from the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA).

Previously, he served as an Acoustic Engineer at the Yangtze River Delta National Innovation Center, leading a ¥6M project on ultrasonic particle sizing instrumentation. He developed high-efficiency inversion algorithms achieving ~10× speedup and >98% accuracy, and contributed to prototype development and system integration.

His work in transcranial ultrasound focuses on phased-array control, full-wave inversion-based acoustic field correction, and neuromodulation systems, including ultrasonic and acoustic–electrical coupled approaches supported by multiple patent filings. He has also participated in major interdisciplinary programs, including a Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission project on MEMS multimodal sensing and healthcare-oriented initiatives.

His current research focuses on ultrasound-based neuromodulation and translational biomedical applications.
