Personal profile

Siyang Li is a PhD candidate in Sociology and Social Policy at the University of Liverpool. His doctoral research examines governance, spatial fragmentation, and the everyday struggles of internal migrants in urban China, with particular attention to how second-tier city governance structures uneven access to housing, mobility, and public services across neighbourhoods. Drawing on perspectives from urban studies, migration research, and social policy, he combines institutional analysis with place-based empirical research.

Siyang holds an MA in Tourism, Environment and Development from King’s College London. Prior to his PhD, he worked in strategic urban planning in mainland China. He is currently an affiliated member of the International Sociological Association (ISA) Research Committee 43 Housing and the Built Environment (RC43).
