Personal profile
Ho Man Yau is currently pursuing a PhD in the Department of Architecture at the University of Liverpool and is based at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU). His doctoral research investigates graph-based methods for representing, transforming, and reconstructing architectural and structural knowledge, with particular emphasis on computational design, knowledge graphs, graph rewriting, machine-learning-supported generative systems, and digital fabrication.
Before commencing his doctoral studies, Ho Man completed a Master of Architecture (M.Arch) degree (RIBA and ARB Part 2) at the Scott Sutherland School of Architecture and Built Environment, Robert Gordon University (RGU). Following graduation, he remained at RGU as a Research Assistant and Visiting Researcher.
Alongside his research, he continues to develop his professional and educational practice. He is a member of Education and Research in Computer Aided Architectural Design in Europe (eCAADe) and an Associate Member of both the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS). He also completed an Associate Fellowship with Advance HE (AFHEA) and the Instructional Skills Workshop (ISW), a professional development program that supports reflective and learner-centered teaching practice.
His engagement with higher education also extends to academic representation. As the PGR Student Representative and Chair of the Design School Student - Staff Liaison Committee (2025 - 2027), he facilitates dialogue between postgraduate researchers and the School, represents student perspectives in school-level discussions, and provides input into activities and support initiatives, including field trips, aimed at enhancing the PGR experience.
His research outputs include contributions to eCAADe (2023, 2025, and 2026), EC3 (2024), and IASS (2025).
