Personal profile

Personal profile

I am Senior Associate Professor at the School of Intelligent Finance and Business, Xian-Jiaotong Liverpool University (XJTLU). After finishing my doctorate study at Boston University in 2004, I shortly taught in Malaysia and Macau, and then joined Shanghai University of Economics and Finance in 2007 as an assistant/associate professor until 2013. I was serving Shanghai University, Zhejiang University of Economics and Finance and Shanghai Maritime University as a full professor before moving to XJTLU in 2023.

My educational background was in operation and supply chain management; during the doctoral years, I had chance to work on end-to-end supply chain planning at Intel and software prototyping at supply chain software company, Optiant. Lured by the rapidly growing digital economy in China, I gradually shifted my research focus to e-commerce, with particular intertests in the business-model innovation in Chinese firms. With three grants supported by National Science Foundation of China on topics of strategic sourcing, online advertising and omnichannel retailing, I have published in Production and Operations Management, INFORMS Journal on Computing, Electronic Commerce Research and Applications, European Journal of Operational Research, Omega, etc.

I am not taking PhD students. For students at Bachelor or Master level, I am happy to supervise your thesis work, preferably on case-based or data-based projects arising from real-world business problems. Students also can work on theoretical projects if you are mathematically talented.  My research methodology mixes operations research with a bit economics.
