Personal profile

Dr. Yiming Chen is an Assistant Professor of Cultural and Creative Industries at the Academy of Film and Creative Technology, Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University. Beginning his career in media production before moving into creative practice teaching and academic research, he brings a practice-informed perspective to the study of digital media and cultural industries. His research sits at the intersection of digital media cultures, platform policies, and AI-driven media technologies, with particular attention to how emerging media infrastructures reshape creative labour, screen industries, and the governance of contemporary cultural sectors.

His work has been published in internationally recognised journals, including Media, Culture & Society, Telecommunications Policy, Social Media & Society, Journalism Studies, and the International Journal of Human–Computer Interaction, etc. In 2025, he published the co-authored monograph Governance of Micro-Dramas, which systematically examines the development of China’s emerging micro-drama industry from a governance perspective.

Educated across China, the United Kingdom, Sweden, and Belgium, he combines international academic training with professional experience in media production, curriculum development, academic leadership, and research-informed creative practice. His research draws on multi-sited fieldwork across Asia and Europe.
