Dr Yiming Chen is an interdisciplinary scholar in media, digital culture, and creative industries at the Academy of Film and Creative Technology, Xi’an Jiaotong–Liverpool University. His research focuses on AI-mediated communication, platform governance, and the transformation of creative labour and media production under AI and platformisation. Drawing on an earlier professional background in screen production, he combines critical scholarship with practice-informed and industry-engaged research.
His work has been published in internationally recognised journals including Media, Culture & Society, Journalism Studies, Telecommunications Policy, Social Media + Society, and the International Journal of Human–Computer Interaction. He co-authored Governance of Micro-Dramas (2025), a systematic study of China’s emerging micro-drama industry in the context of AI and platformisation.
With academic experience spanning China, the United Kingdom, Sweden, and Belgium, he brings an international and interdisciplinary perspective to research, teaching, and academic leadership. His leadership experience spans research strategy, doctoral education, undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum development, and industry engagement and partnerships. He also serves as Associate Editor (China and East Asia) of the Journal of Digital Media & Policy.
