Dr Xiao (Lucia) Lu is a scholar of creative industries. Her research agenda centres on cultural production, policy governance, and digital transformation in China’s cultural and creative sectors, with empirical emphasis on the video game industry and digital heritage to explore the dynamics of policy, technology, and creative practice in contemporary China. Her scholarly works examine how generative AI and digital methods are reshaping cultural production, industrial governance, and heritage representation in Chinese cultural and creative industries.
Lucia's work is also grounded in the investigation of a diverse range of arts and entertainment forms, including music, theatre, museum, fashion, film, and dance. This cross-domain perspective has equipped her with a holistic and systematic understanding of the cultural and creative industries as an integrated ecosystem.
Since 2017, she has lectured undergraduate and postgraduate students at Goldsmiths, Middlesex University, and UCA Business School for Creative Industries. Beyond her academic pursuits, Lucia has gained experience working with various cultural organisations in China and the UK, including the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing, Ogilvy & Mather, Battersea Arts Centre, and Asia House Arts Learning. Furthermore, she has been invited to speak on topics such as video games and soft power as well as generative AI and copyright, with her insights featured in the Straits Times and CNA (Singapore).
