Dr Theo Mojtaba Ammari is an associate professor of academic development. He is a distinguished and visionary leader in academic development and higher education. He is globally recognised for pioneering contributions to authentic curriculum design, transformative assessment practices, and advanced skills development. As an Associate Professor in Academic Development, Dr Ammari initiated the groundbreaking Assessment Sprint project in response to the rapid advancements in Generative AI, which has since become the cornerstone of the Sunderland University's flagproject on Assessment Innovation Programme (AIP). This initiative has redefined educational frameworks, aligning them with the future of learning, teaching, and assessment in the age of AI.

Dr Ammari is a dynamic and internationally acclaimed keynote speaker, he has delivered thought-provoking addresses at prestigious conferences in the United Kingdom, Turkey, Oman, China, and Kazakhstan, influencing academic discourse globally.

He is passionate advocate for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), Dr Ammari is at the forefront of driving sustainable change in education, shaping both global policy and institutional practice. His achievements have earned him numerous accolades, including the esteemed Vice-Chancellor Teaching Fellow award of Sunderland University in 2024, solidifying his reputation as a leader of vision and impact. Dr Ammari holds the Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) and is currently pursuing a Principal Fellowship (PFHEA), further underscoring his commitment to excellence in academic leadership.

He focuses on transformative educational projects and innovative teaching and learning methods in the Generative AI era. He has also been actively involved in teaching and supervising MSc and PhD students, with one of his PhD students achieving a distinction this year. Holding a BSc and MSc in Pure Mathematics and a PhD in Mathematics Education from Warwick University, Dr Ammari is globally recognised for his pioneering contributions to authentic curriculum design, transformative assessment practices, and advanced skills development.

Research interests

Dr Theo Ammari has been supervising both Master's and PhD students, with one of his PhD students successfully completed his PhD programme with distinction earlier this year. Dr Theo Ammari is currently welcoming PhD students to work on research in the following areas of interest:
