Personal profile

Personal profile

Teo Hidalgo Nácher is an architect and Associate Professor in the Department of Architecture at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU), and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). His research frames architecture as a relational practice attentive to the interactions between people, materials, and multispecies ecologies in everyday life. His current work focuses on bio-based and circular materials, examining their potential to transform building practices and contribute to more inclusive ecosystems.

His projects have received international recognition, including Pink Island (1st Prize, Seoul Garden International Competition), Living Soils (2nd Prize, Europan 15, Barcelona), the Gusu District Metro (2nd Prize), the Jiangnan Community Center (3rd Prize), and Cabanons, exhibited at the 6th Suzhou Jinji Lake Biennale (2023).

At XJTLU, Teo has served as Director of the Design Research Center (2021–2024) and Departmental Exam Officer (2021–2023). He also contributes as a keynote speaker, jury member, critic, and reviewer at international universities, conferences, and professional events.

Before joining XJTLU, Teo worked at the East China Architectural Design and Research Institute (ECADI) in Shanghai, where he developed high-profile projects such as the Urumqi Diwopu International Airport, the Eastbund Lighttowers, the Bao’an Cultural Center, the Sanlin Bridge, the Zhejiang Cultural Center, and the Century Pavilion—all awarded 1st Prize in international competitions. Earlier in his career, he collaborated with José Antonio Martínez Lapeña and Elías Torres in Barcelona and worked as a consultant for the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) in Venezuela, focusing on the preservation of the UNESCO World Heritage City of Coro.

He graduated with a Master’s degree in Architecture from ETSAV – Escola Tècnica Superior d’Arquitectura del Vallès, Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), and previously studied at ETSAMadrid and Roma Tre University in Rome.
