Dr. Lau Teck Chai is a Senior Associate Professor at the Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Hub, XJTLU Entrepreneur College (Taicang), China. Prior to joining XJTLU, Dr. Lau has held many academic leadership roles across several universities. Notable leadership positions include Head of Department, Head of Postgraduate, Head of Academic Quality and Innovation, Head of Audit Committee, and Chairman of various academic committees.
In the course of his academic career, Dr. Lau has received accolades such as the Outstanding Postgraduate Supervision Award as well as Best Paper Award. He has consistently received excellent student evaluation for his teaching, and has also been recognized for his outstanding contributions in reviewing journal articles.
Dr. Lau has published more than 70 journal articles, many of which are indexed in Scopus and SSCI/SCIE/ESCI. His works have been widely cited internationally and to date, he has more than 7500 citations in Google Scholar. In addition to his extensive publishing record in journals and proceedings, he has also co-authored two textbooks that are widely adopted by both public and private universities in Malaysia. The Business Ethics textbook by Oxford Publishing is the first of its kind with local content. It is one of the bestselling Business Ethics textbooks in Malaysia. The 3rd edition of the textbook published in 2025 continued to be widely used in many established universities. Another textbook, Business Research Methods (2nd edition), which he wrote in collaboration with academics from both public and private universities, has widely been adopted in business research modules from undergraduate to postgraduate level.
Besides obtaining funding and grants from many universities, Dr. Lau has also secured other noteworthy research grants such as the Sumitomo Foundation Grant from Japan and the HEAD Foundation Grant from Singapore. One prominent achievement was securing the very first grant awarded to the University of Southampton Malaysia, the Sumitomo Foundation Grant, for his interdisciplinary collaboration on renewable energy's impact in Malaysia and Japan with a colleague from the university's Engineering School. He has also received grants from the Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM) and the Malaysian Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (MAICSA).
Since 2012, Dr. Lau has served as an expert assessor for the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA), specializing in Administration, Management, and Business. He has chaired audit committee meetings and evaluated programs ranging from Foundation to Doctorate levels. He has also served as an external examiner for professional bodies such as MAICSA and the Malaysian Association of Company Secretaries (MACS). Currently, he holds positions as PhD/MPhil external thesis examiner and External Examiner for various undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Dr. Lau's expertise has been further recognized with his appointment as an External Supervisor for PhD candidates at Taylors University Malaysia, the current top private university in Southeast Asia based on QS World University Rankings.
Beyond his academic pursuits, Dr. Lau is an avid traveler, having explored more than 30 countries, immersing himself in their unique geographical, historical, and cultural features. He was involved in several charitable initiatives in Malaysia, Nepal, and Cambodia previously, where he took on various leadership and coordination roles.
