Tao Xu is a PhD candidate in Civil Engineering at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU), specializing in the shear behavior of reinforced concrete structures and the size effect in structural members. His research focuses on the experimental investigation and development of refined shear models for RC deep beams. He holds a master’s degree and a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Zhejiang University of Technology. His doctoral work aims to address critical gaps in the understanding of how shear strength scales in large-scale structural elements, which is vital for the safe and economical design of transfer girders, corbels, and pile caps. Through rigorous large-scale testing and advanced data analysis, his research seeks to contribute to more accurate and reliable design provisions in concrete design codes. His expertise bridges advanced experimental mechanics, structural analysis, and the practical evaluation of international design standards to enhance the safety and resilience of modern infrastructure.
