Dr Samuel Kwok, FCA(UK), FHEA, obtained his doctorate in professional studies (Policy Management) from Middlesex University, London, UK, under the supervision of Dr Gertrude Shotte.  He pioneered a new transdisciplinary approach in practice-led research (PLR) focused on developing branding narrative policies by establishing the - Policy Actors' Group research paradigm and the Role-based Narrative Policy Framework. Dr Kwok's applied-research includes business case studies and industry analysis reports, and he is actively involved in educational research.  His edited volunmes are held in the libraries of prestigious institutions such as Stanford University, Johns Hopkins University, and XJTLU.  Currently, he serves as the editor-in-chief of the IBSS Case Book: Chinese Business and Management Practices - AI Transformation in the Management of Chinese Organizations, LUP, IMPRINT-UoL, UK (ongoing).

Additionally, Dr Kwok acts as an external examiner for PhD thesis.  His current research focuses on:

1. Applying do-calculus and Bayes' theorem in audit data analytics to evaluate the likelihood and probabilities of auditors changing their mindset from skeptical to suspicious,

2. Practice-led approach to developing branding strategies through the application of role theory within the meso-level narrative policy framework.

Trained as a UK Chartered Accountant with experience at two Big Four firms, Dr Kwok is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), his name is listed on the FCA Register in the UK as an FCA (UK).  Dr Kwok is also a QP Advisor of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA). He is a specialist in the bullion market and has acted as a principal advisor to the Hong Kong Gold Exchange for the 'Shenzhen-Hong Kong Gold Connect' initiative. His monograph 'Strategy of China Bullion Market Integration and its Financial Impact' - was published by People's Daily Press in China.  Dr Kwok served as the director of the MSc Professional Accounting programme from the AY2018/19 through AY2023/24.  Between 2018 and 2026, he managed corporate training programmes for CRRC, Sodexo, and Santoni.  He acted as the Academic Director of Executive Education from 2018 to 2019.  He currently holds the position of Deputy Head of the Department of Accounting at IBSS, and acts as the Deputy Director of Research Cluster of Excellence (RCE) - Business Education Research.

Over the past 20 years, his perspectives have been featured in leading national and international media outlets such as Xinhua News Agency (China), 21st Century Business Herald (China), Canvas8 (UK), NHK(Japan), The Campus-Times Higher Education (UK), ABC News (Australia), TATLER Asia, The CONVERSATION (UK), Channel News Asia (Singapore), Sina.com, Toutiao.com, and others. 

Prior to joining IBSS in 2016, Dr Kwok held key roles including CFO of China and General Manager of China at two Hong Kong-Listed Companies.  He later established his own consultancy firm, undertaking various government-industry projects.  Currently, Dr Kwok serves as the chair of the audit committee of a company listed on the STAR Market of the Shanghai Stock Exchange.

Dr Kwok received the Teaching Excellence Award from the International Association of Accountants, UK, in 2017.  He was also honoured with the IBSS- Contribution to Education Research Award for the years 2021/22 and 2024/25.
