Personal profile

Nuno Bernardo (BA, BSc, Lic, MSc, PGCHE) is an industry-experienced industrial designer and maker, educator and researcher. He worked for product design consultancies such as Atelier Satyendra Pakhalé or Yonoh Studio while in professional practice, contributing to projects ranging from furniture and lighting to toy design. He moved to academia in 2013, joining the Department of Architecture and Built Environment of the University of Nottingham in Ningbo, China. In 2018 began pursuing a PhD in design and publishing research that disseminates views and perceptions on the use and applications of digital or online technologies, with a particular focus on Immersive Virtual Reality, for the teaching and learning of industrial design-related competencies. Joined the Department of Industrial Design of the Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University in 2019 and presently leads and contributes to various modules across different levels of the BEng Industrial Design programme. Areas of interest include design, product engineering, product hacking, renewable energy, materiality and prototyping, education and pedagogy, technology and human-computer interaction.
