Xiaoli Zhao is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Strategic Management and Organization at Xi’an Jiaotong – Liverpool University, China. She completed her PhD in Business Management at the University of Canterbury in 2017. She has been a postdoctoral fellow at Lincoln University, University of Canterbury and prestigious the University of Auckland Business School, before working as Lecturer at Lincoln University in New Zealand. Dr Zhao’s research focuses on the intersection of strategy and sustainable development. In particular she addresses the issues around sustainable consumption (by studying meat reduction strategies and alternative protein consumption) and sustainable working conditions (by studying lifestyle entrepreneurship and modern slavery). Her work appears at leading academic journals such as International Journal of Logistics Management, Asia Pacific Journal of Management or at practitioner blogs such as MIT Sloan Management Review. She has over two decades of managerial and consulting experience – having worked 8 years at Air China and over a decade as consultant on international trade between China and New Zealand. A certified yoga teacher and lifestyle couch, Dr Zhao is a passionate plant-based food advocate and proponent of a healthy and mindful lifestyle.
