📣 I am hiring PhD students with a half-scholarship provided (tuition fee + conference attendance).

🎯 The student will explore visualization in motion in a 3D environment

🎓 A successfully completed candidate will be awarded a PhD degree in Computer Science and Software Engineering from the University of Liverpool (UK).
🏞️ The workplace is in Suzhou, a beautiful and open-minded Chinese city.
🗨️ The working language is English.
👋 International students are welcome.

I am an Assistant Professor at Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) and the Program Director of Computer Science and Technology. My research interests include visualization in motion, AI-assisted data communication, and human-AI interactionMy work received the Double-Innovation Doctor Program from Jiangsu Province, the PhD Thesis Prize from ACM AFIHM, and the Research Award from Canada Mitacs Globalink. Part of my work on visualization in motion was applied in the 2024 Paris Olympics swimming races. Before I joined XJTLU, I was a postdoctoral and doctoral researcher at INRIA and a visiting researcher at the University of Calgary. I obtained my Ph.D. and M.Sc. in Computer Science from the Université of Paris-Saclay, an Ing. from Polytech Lille, and a B.Eng. from XIDIAN University. Collaboration emails are more than welcome!

For students who are interested in Visualization - AI - Interaction and would like to conduct their PhD with me, please fill in the Google Form (https://forms.gle/aXG7jnjhFYQwRnQa8) or email me.

Research interests

My research interests include but are not limited to visualization, interaction, and artificial intelligence.

  • Visualization:

I mainly focus on situated and embedded visualization, as well as visualization in motion. I am always contributing to understanding how motion characteristics and spatial factors affect the perception, design, and application of visualization. My research journey includes basic exploration, prototype development, and real application. The ultimate goal of my research is to help the general public better understand the data, get useful insights from information, and make decisions easily in daily life.

  • Interaction:

I am interested in investigating how users can better interact with and explore information, especially with complex data and/or by multimodal interactions. The research aims to, based on specific application scenarios, explore and develop innovative interaction techniques, simplify interactions with a human-centered approach, and improve the user experience.

  • Artificial Intelligence:

For artificial intelligence (AI), my interests are in exploring how it can help with research on visualization, or broader HCI, what aspects need to be improved, and how. My work here includes preliminary investigation, systematic review, specific model training, and answering how-to questions.
