He earned his B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering (Communications and Electronics) from Alexandria University, Egypt, in 2006, 2011, and 2016, respectively . Dr. Moussa has established a robust research profile, authoring over 43 scientific publications in high-impact journals and international conferences. His research has attracted substantial external funding, exceeding 100,000 USD, and includes leading several strategic internal projects at XJTLU, such as "Intelligent Beam Management for IoT and BANS in mmWave Extremely Large Antenna Arrays" and the "Practical Syntegrative Education Model" for smart waste management .
Research interests
His research interests are strategically focused on key technological frontiers:
- Next-Generation Wireless Communications: Advancing 5G/6G technologies, Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS), massive MIMO, and mmWave beamforming for IoT and body area networks.
- IoT Security and Intelligent Systems: Developing secure IoT frameworks through advanced cryptography, including chaos-based encryption and pseudo-random number generators (PRNGs) for image encryption and data protection.
- AI-Enhanced Syntegrative Education: Creating conceptual frameworks that integrate artificial intelligence and smart IoT solutions into interdisciplinary, project-based education to solve real-world problems like intelligent waste management .
Beyond research, Dr. Moussa demonstrates significant academic leadership. He actively contributes to the academic community by serving on technical program committees for international conferences (e.g., CNIOT 2025), reviewing for prestigious journals, and organizing knowledge-sharing sessions like the IECUBE Wireless Solution Sharing Session . This updated profile highlights a consistent record of scholarly achievement, successful project leadership, and a clear research trajectory that aligns with future-oriented domains, presenting a compelling case for career advancement.
Experience
Assistant Professor at the School of Internet of Things, Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University since June 2022.
Teaching
Dr. Eng. Karim H. Moussa has established a distinguished record of teaching excellence, consistently earning outstanding student feedback with Mean Questionnaire (MQ) scores reaching a perfect 5.00/5.00 for Final Year Project supervision and 4.96/5.00 for core modules like IOT206TC, while maintaining remarkably low failure rates as low as 0%. His pedagogical leadership is demonstrated through his role as Director of Learning and Teaching, where he has pioneered the integration of Project-Based Learning (PBL), Syntegrative Education (SE), and AI-enhanced teaching frameworks across the curriculum. He has successfully designed and led modules for large cohorts, while also providing exceptional individual mentorship, directly supervising research projects that bridge advanced topics in IoT security, wireless communications, and intelligent systems. His teaching philosophy seamlessly aligns with and advances XJTLU's strategic goals in student-centered, industry-connected, and technology-enhanced education, making him a pivotal figure in the university's educational mission.
