Personal profile

Jiashi Yu holds an M.Arch ARB/RIBA Part II with distinction from the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL, and a B.S. in Architecture from the University of Michigan, Taubman College, where she received the Wallenberg and Willeke awards.

 

Currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Architecture at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, her research explores the intersection of speculative narratives in architecture and the transformative role of drawing as a medium to forge new connections between space, form, and function. Since 2023, she has been collaborating with the Foundation DaST on cultural and architectural restoration in Portuguese village Torrão, hosting international workshops, research initiatives, and artist residency programs.

As the founder of Jess Yu Design, she has delivered a range of architectural and interior design projects, with her work featured on platforms such as ArchDaily, Elle Deco, and Vision China.

In the art field, Jiashi’s work has been showcased at venues including the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition, Roca Gallery Beijing, CAFA, UrbanCross Gallery, and ZiWu Gallery. She created the 55-meter animated scroll A Day with Emperor Qianlong for the Suzhou Museum’s Young Artist Program, and was awarded an artist-residency fellowship at the Swatch Art Peace Hotel in Shanghai. She is also the founder of the DreamWeaving Project, a platform for cross-disciplinary collaboration with artists through residencies, exhibitions, and workshops. In 2023, she was named to Forbes China’s 30 Under 30 list.
