Dr. Zheng is an Associate Professor of Strategy and Innovation and a PhD supervisor. He studies how companies compete, grow, and innovate and helps leaders put those insights into practice. He holds a BSc in Economics, an MSc in International Business, an MRes in Management, and a PhD in Management Studies.

Research Focus

Strategy: how firms set direction, make hard choices, and align resources across market and non‑market arenas in a global context to build and sustain competitive advantage.

Entrepreneurship: how ventures start and scale, from financing and team design to IPO strategies and growth hurdles.

Innovation and technology management: how organizations deliver incremental and radical innovation/new products innovation, lead digital transformation, build innovation ecosystems, and measure innovation performance.

Publications and Service

His research appears in leading journals, among them the British Journal of Management (ABS 4), Regional Studies (ABS 4), International Journal of Operations & Production Management (ABS 4), Decision Support Systems (A* in ABDC list), Energy Economics (A* in ABDC list), Transportation Research Part E (A* in ABDC list), Technovation (ABS 3), and the Journal of Business Research (ABS 3). He also serves the field as a managing editor, associate editor, and reviewers for several leading journals.

Engagement and Teaching

Dr. Zheng partners with companies, governments, and universities to turn research into results with helping organizations adopt new technologies, strengthen their innovation processes and faciliate organizational transformation. As a teacher and mentor, he supports students and entrepreneurs in venture creation and development, product innovation, and growth strategy. He is appointed by local governmental agencies as a strategy specialist to support firm growth and regional development and innovation. He is also invited by firms, including SMEs and state‑owned enterprises, to deliver executive programs on corporate strategy, business models, and entrepreneurship.
