Personal profile

Dr. Juming Shen is a local resident of Suzhou. He received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Soochow University in 2007 and 2010 respectively. To further explore his interest in academic studies, he went to Australia with the fund from China Scholarship Council and he obtained his Ph.D in educational studies from Queensland University of Technology in 2013. He returned to his hometown immediately and started working at Soochow University as a senior lecturer in the School of Foreign Languages. In 2016, Dr. Shen joined the Language Centre of Xi’an Jiaotong Liverpool University where he taught modules on English for Academic Purposes and developed a new module of “Developing Students’ Intercultural Awareness and Skills”. In 2019, he joined Academy of Future Education as an Assistant Professor to lecture on the program of MA Global Education. From 2019 to 2021, he worked as Director of Learning and Teaching for the school for two years. From 2021 to 2024, he worked as the founding HoD of Learning Institute for Future Excellence (LIFE), a department dedicated to develop students’ lifelong learning capacity as well as the overall learning practices in XJTLU. Currently, Dr Shen is the Programme Director of MA Global Education in Department of Education Studies, Academy of Future Education.

Dr Shen’s research interest is now focused on the sociological aspects of digital eduation, such as the impact of educational digitalization and AI on students, teachers, and schools at various levels. His research is largely informed by educational semiotics (edu-semiotics), an analytical framework gaining acknowledgement rapidly and widely in educational studies.
