Dr Huan Li is an Assistant Professor at the Academy of Future Education at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University. He obtained his PhD in Higher Education from the Faculty of Education at the University of Hong Kong. Prior to that, he completed a Master’s degree in Education at Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
Dr Li’s research interests encompass two interrelated areas, both of which examine critical aspects of higher education. His primary focus is on doctoral education, with his doctoral thesis exploring the various factors that influence the career trajectories of PhD students and graduates. During his doctoral research, he developed a particular interest in graduate employability, specifically exploring the educational factors that facilitate or hinder students’ transition from university to the workforce. Dr Li is proficient in both qualitative and quantitative research methods. His work has been published in leading education journals, including Higher Education, Studies in Higher Education, Higher Education Research & Development, and Education + Training. He also actively serves as a peer reviewer for these journals and currently sits on the editorial board of Tertiary Education and Management, as well as the Early-Career Researcher Board for Higher Education Quarterly.
Dr Li is currently leading several research projects as the principal investigator, focusing on both areas of his expertise. These include investigating educational practices that enhance doctoral students’ researcher identities and assessing graduate employability among Chinese students. He strongly advocates for research-oriented learning and aims to cultivate knowledge exchange between academia and industry.
