Personal profile
Giancarlo Di Marco is a Senior Associate Professor in the Department of Architecture at Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU).
An architectural engineer with extensive international experience, his research is centred on the intelligent automation of construction, with a primary focus on 3D Concrete Printing (3DCP).
He pioneers the integration of Artificial Intelligence in Cyber-Physical Production Systems to develop adaptive, real-time control of digital fabrication processes. His work establishes theoretical frameworks for the standardisation and industrialisation of 3DCP through Decentralised Science, and his research findings have been published in top-ranked scientific journals and presented at leading international conferences worldwide, including eCAADe, IASS, ICSA, and SIGraDi.
He is a well-recognised authority in his field, regularly invited to lecture at universities across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. He actively contributes to the academic community as a member of scientific committees for prestigious international conferences and serves as a trusted peer reviewer for several top-ranked scientific journals.
Former internationalisation Officer and Program Director of the Master in Architectural Design, he is now the Academic Director of the Design FabLab at XJTLU, a first-class digital fabrication lab with cutting-edge robotic technologies: he has been instrumental in advancing the research infrastructure, and is now fostering a vibrant platform for interdisciplinary, research-led inquiry that bridges computational design, robotics, and material science, leveraging the materialisation capabilities of the FabLab.
