Fengzhi Zhao is an Assistant Professor in Department of Applied Linguistics. Before joining XJTLU, she did her Ph.D. at the Department of Languages, Cultures, and Applied Linguistics, Birkbeck, University of London. Her fields of research broadly fall into: sociolinguistics; linguistic landscape studies; discourse analysis; linguistic ethnography. She is generally interested in issues such as language, space and identity; sociolinguistics of globalization and cosmopolitanism; sociolinguistic enquiry pertaining to digital humanities and health humanities. She is currently working on projects related to language, affect, and urban encounters in the context of Shanghai; language and discourse in the online-offline nexus of everyday lifeworld; language, communication and aging in place.
