Personal profile
Personal profile
Danwen Qiu is an in‑service PhD candidate in the School of Science at Xi’an Jiaotong‑Liverpool University, pursuing her doctoral research alongside her professional role in the pharmaceutical industry. She holds a Master’s degree in Pharmaceutics from the University of Copenhagen, Denmark, and a Bachelor’s degree in Bioengineering from China Pharmaceutical University.
With formal academic training in pharmaceutical sciences and bioengineering, combined with extensive industry experience, her doctoral work is strongly positioned at the interface of academic research and real‑world clinical and translational needs. As an industry‑based doctoral researcher, she actively engages in collaborative research that bridges university research with enterprise‑driven projects, contributing to study design, data analysis, and peer‑reviewed publications.
She has authored and co‑authored multiple articles in international journals, including Journal of the American Chemical Society, ACS Omega, Sex Health, and AIDS Patient Care and STDs, and has participated in major international HIV and AIDS conferences such as the European AIDS Conference and the IAS Conference on HIV Science.
Research interests
Danwen Qiu’s research interests lie at the intersection of pharmaceutical sciences, HIV research, and industry‑academic collaboration. Her work integrates structure‑guided drug design, molecular modeling, and medicinal chemistry approaches for the development and optimization of HIV‑1 protease inhibitors, supported by in vitro evaluation and molecular dynamics simulations.
In parallel, she is actively involved in applied and translational research related to HIV prevention and treatment. Her research also addresses HIV‑associated comorbidities, especially hepatitis C virus (HCV) coinfection, through evidence synthesis and meta‑analyses to inform clinical decision‑making.
As an in‑service PhD researcher, her work emphasizes the translation of academic findings into practice, fostering collaboration between academia and the pharmaceutical industry to support evidence‑based strategies in HIV prevention, antiviral drug development, and global health.
