Personal profile

Chris has taught at public and private institutions in Ireland, South Korea and Mainland China. He received an MA in Applied Linguistics and TESOL from the University of Leicester and has written articles for publications such as Modern English Teacher, English Teaching Professional and Korea TESOL Journal.

In his current role as the Deputy Head of the Academic Literacies Centre, Chris oversees all academic language support for the Design School, where he also teaches on DES107: Entrepreneurialism in Design and Engineering. From 2023-2025, Chris was Deputy Director of the English Language Centre and Head of Assessment Development. Prior to this, he was the Head of Division for EAP Foundation.

In a previous role with the British Council in Mainland China, Chris worked as an assessment solutions consultant in the East Asia Assessment Solutions Team, a role that saw him work with a variety of key stakeholders in the East Asia region. In this role, Chris provided academic support for the British Council's Marketing teams in the form of workshops, webinars, presentations and client visits. He also managed numerous assessment-related projects, including taking on the role of programme chair for the British Council's New Directions in Language Assessment East Asia 2020 and 2021 conferences.
